Born to Albertus ‘Bert’ Franklin Clark and Laura Caroline ‘Carrie’ McCorkle Clark on December 6, 1924, in the Moore’s Chapel community of Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Cox raised her family in Huntersville and North Charlotte. She was a charter member of Northdale Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wilson-Beatty VFW Post 9736 in Croft. She was employed as a bookkeeper at S.W. and C.S. Davis Company for twenty years. She was devoted to her family, church and community. She was a caring neighbor and friend. Even years after she became unable to be active in the community, she continued to send cards and food to family and friends. She enjoyed sewing beautiful quilts and giving them as gifts. She canned produce from her garden and generously fed anyone who came through her door. She will be sorely missed, but we are at peace in the knowledge that she is now rejoicing in heaven with those loved ones who have gone on before her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lafayette ‘Fate’ Cox; her son, Charles Michael ‘Mike’ Cox; her great-grandchildren, Brett Dwayne Cox and Mila Fate Laganis; her sister, Dorothy ‘Dot’ Hoffman; and two brothers, Wilmer Clark and Frank Clark.
She is survived by her son and devoted primary caregiver, Carey Franklin Cox; three daughters: Betty Cox Roberts, Ann Cox Whiteside and Kelly Cox James; daughter-in-law, Patsy Cox Barrier; nine grandchildren: Ray Cox, Jill Lookadoo (Jimmy), Dwayne Cox, Leigh Roberts, Mac Cox, Scott Whiteside, Kathryn ‘Kati’ Laganis (Philip); Eric James (Emily) and Christina James; nine great-grandchildren: Caroline Cox, Jessica Rigsby, Dalton Cox, Sierra Altizer, Kelby Thornton (Hannah), Kipp Thornton, Zoë Laganis, Liv Laganis, Elijah Laganis and Sloane James-Friedhoff; and four great-great-grandchildren: Destiny Cox, Ariya Peterson, Jennings Thornton and Oaklynn Thornton.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
