Donald Phillip Roberts

April 21, 1978 - January 20, 2024

Don was born in Tucson, Arizona, to William Clark & Mary Catherine Roberts. He had an older brother, William Jr. " Bill" ( deceased October 1, 2021). Don was married to Sharon Lee Aponick for 47 years until her passing on January 23, 2018. Mom & Dad died in 2006 and 1992, respectively.

He is survived by me, his sister, Gwen Roberts Frickhoeffer, my husband, John " Buddy", our children and their others, along with our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Tammy Roberts, Bill's family, and Barbara Deusterman (Paul), and her children. All from the Patricia Mohr (deceased June 26, 2023) side of the family, including nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, will be missing him too.

Our father was a CMSGT with the Air Force until his retirement after 28 years. We lived many places, South Carolina, Memphis, Arizona, Japan, Minnesota, Florida, Okinawa, Seattle, Florida again, then North Carolina, to name a few.

Don had a BS in Management from the University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL. He worked for the Veterans Affairs Office at the University and as an Assistant Manager at Chateau Royale Apartments in Pensacola before joining the Air Force in 1969. He served until 1973 as an Airborne Weapons Mechanic and as a Technical and Safety Inspector. He served mostly in Taiwan. He married Sharon in Panama City, after his Taiwan assignment.

Don and Sharon loved to travel especially to St. Maarten and the Bahamas, where you could find them in the casinos playing three-card poker or blackjack. Or visiting Club Orient beach in St. Maarten.

Since Sharon passed away, Don has made many friends and helped a lot of people along the way. He has been very generous. His favorite hangouts have been Planet Fitness, The Lodge, The Office, Flying Biscuit and anywhere else he found interesting people. He loved being a member of the Charlotte Providence Rotary Club and enjoyed many meals and fellowship with them. His neighbors will miss him, especially him riding the Jazzy up and down the street visiting with everyone.

A memorial gathering will be held at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Services, 5301 Albemarle Road Charlotte, NC 28212, on Saturday February 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Also, feel free to join us at The Office at Stonecrest for a drink and a $2 bill on Sunday February 18, 2024 from 2:00pm- 3:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers any gifts in his honor would be appreciated by Hospice VIA Health Partners of Charlotte, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28226; who were invaluable in his final care.

He was a major power player in our world, and we will miss him forever.
