Dawn Greaves

She was born on March 14, 1957 in New York City and was the daughter of Barbara Davis Greaves and the late Charles Bernard Greaves. Dawn graduated from Springfield Gardens High School in 1975 and received her degree in nursing at City University of New York in 1981.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Sean Christopher Greaves, mother, Barbara Davis Greaves, both of Charlotte; brother, Charles Greaves and wife Shanae and their kids of Atlanta, GA; aunts, Yvonne Blair and Merline Melvin and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dawn was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served and worshiped God. She was a Registered Nurse and was employed by Advanced Home Health in Gastonia, N.C. for over 15 years. Dawn lived her life to take care of others including her son, Sean and her loving mother, Barbara.

Dawn and Barbara relocated to Charlotte around 1987 with the arrival of Sean, leaving behind Dawn’s Manhattan apartment with a beautiful view of Central Park for life in North Carolina. Over the next few decades, Dawn devotedly took care of her mother Barbara and raised Sean to be a successful individual of good character, all while taking care of others as a home health nurse. She always had a smile and was welcoming and earnest with others.

Sean, a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, was Dawn’s love and pride. Dawn also cared for her two dogs, Zoe and Fritz and loved music, art and painting and decorating her home and garden. Her favorite musicians were Earth, Wind & Fire and Michael Jackson. She was a fan of the Carolina Panthers and the Tarheels, whose games she often watched with friends and family.

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015 in The Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West with Reverend James Hope presiding and Reverend Ruby Hope assisting. Inurnment will follow the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial at the funeral home.
