Retired Fire Station Commander, Captain David F. McCallum, 83, of Charlotte, passed away September 24, 2020 in his home. Born November 7, 1936 in Charlotte, he was the son of Hubert A. and Pauline (Livengood) McCallum. He was the husband of the late Jo Ann Elliott.
A graduate of Harding High School, class of 1956, David was the Charlotte Junior Chamber of Commerce 1948 Marble Champion of Wesley Heights School. He was in the Air National Guard from 1959 until 1963. He then joined the Charlotte Fire Department in 1963 and retired in 1992 after 29 years of public service. He was also the former owner and operator of Home Exteriors.
In his younger years, David was a private pilot and he enjoyed water skiing. Later years, David enjoyed playing golf at the Cowan’s Ford Country Club where he spent time with his golfing friends and one special gal.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Hubert McCallum Jr., Marian Heath, William McCallum and James McCallum.
Memorial Service 2 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. Visitation 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1915 Oakdale Road, Charlotte, NC 28216 or the Charlotte Fire Department Relief Fund, 500 Dalton Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28206, Attention: Patricia Adams.
