David is survived by his wife, Ann Boone Houck, and their children, Savannah (Joseph) Fredendall, and Alex (Abby) Houck. He is predeceased by his mother, Shirley Morgan Houck. David is also survived by his father, William Houck; his siblings, Sherrie (Alfred) Shuford, Terri (Mickey) Greene, and Dan (Sharon) Houck; mother-in-law, Louise Boone, sister-in-law, Traci (Randall) Boutwell, and sister-in-law, Teresa VanDevelde; along with many nieces and nephews.
David was born in Johnson City, New York and raised in Endicott, New York. He moved with his family to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1979. He attended Saint Andrews Presbyterian College, earning a degree in Finance and Marketing. He met the love of his life, Ann, at Saint Andrews and they married in July of 1985. He worked for various banks throughout the southeast, but he finished his career with owning his own business, Home Clean Heroes. His greatest love, after Ann, were his children (especially the furry ones). They adopted their fourth golden retriever, Evvie, in March 2023. He was involved in many aspects of his children's lives - sports, church activities, and helping them become amazing adults.
David grew up skiing, running, and swimming; he took delight in coaching and sharing these loves with Savannah and Alex. He ran a half marathon with Savannah, Alex, and Abby in 2017. David and Ann loved to be outside, whether it was hiking, relaxing at the lake, or doing yard work in their garden. Most of David's free time was spent cooking delicious meals with Ann, as he was a master on the grill; his 3 grills are a testament to that. He could grill any meat to perfection and was always researching new recipes. He will always be remembered for his grilled leg quarters and famous mashed potatoes.
