David Herndon entered into his eternal rest at 11:00 pm on December 19, 2022 at the age of 76. David was born to Spencer W. and Emma (Smith) Herndon on April 1, 1946 in Rockingham, NC as the youngest of six boys.
He served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, from 1966-1968 as a tank driver.
He married Diane Taylor on January 30, 1971. David and Diane have one daughter, Michelle Herndon.
David was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers; Spencer, Robert, Roger, and Larry. He is survived by his wife and daughter, and by his brother Ray (Sheila) Herndon, and several nieces and nephews.
He worked as a truck driver for UPS and was with them for 50 years, retiring in 2019.
David was a dedicated father and husband and was an active and valued member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene. Over his many years of faithful service, he served as a Sunday School teacher and board member, and was a true leader with a servant’s heart. In his retirement, he dedicated his time to the Calvary Nazarene food pantry and volunteered at the church in whatever capacity he was needed. He was always willing to help anyone. His life was an example of humble, faithful, loving, and Christ-like service.
Celebration of his life will be at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 4000 N Sharon Amity Rd. in Charlotte on Friday afternoon, December 23, with visitation beginning at 1:00 and service held at 2:00. Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens 1504 W Sugar Creek Rd.
Memorials have been established for the Calvary Church of the Nazarene and the Calvary Nazarene Food Pantry.
