Dave Foster, 67, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House Southminster. Born July 19, 1954 in Nashville, TN, he was the son of Richard Dan Foster and Collette Marie Ferguson Foster.
He graduated from Father Ryan High School, Nashville, TN. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1982 and was stationed in San Diego, CA where he met his wife, Kathy. Dave served as a radioman/communications operator aboard the U.S.S. Midway and the U.S.S. O’Brien. He proudly received the Humanitarian Service Medal, 2 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and a Good Conduct award. After the Navy, Dave utilized his electronics training at McDonnel Douglas as a test engineer on the KC-10 fuel pressure control unit. He received numerous compliments on his work from the U.S Air Force Program Office and McDonnell Douglas.
Dave left McDonnel Douglas to move his family closer to home in the KY and TN area. He later went on to work in the paging and wireless communications industries, where he spent the majority of his career. He spent numerous hours during hurricane season supporting his team helping restore communications for hospitals and doctors after Hurricane’s Charley and Ivan just to name a couple. Every time there was a major hurricane, he would always rush to help with food, water and other supplies for his team and the communities hard hit. While in the paging industry, Dave completed his BS in Technology Communications and his MBA in Technology Management.
In his spare time, you would always find Dave in his ‘workshop’ aka his garage. He loved woodworking and creating numerous pieces that he loved giving to family and friends. Some of his favorites were crosses and nativity sets. Prior to his illness, he also enjoyed playing golf, especially with his sons who are much better golfers than he was.
Dave is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen (Akers) Foster of Mint Hill, NC; sons, David Lee Foster Jr (Natalie) of Clarksville, TN, Nathan Daniel Foster (Jillian) of Matthews, NC, and Phillip Michael Foster (Amanda) of Mooresville, NC; four grandchildren who were the love of his life Whitney, John David, Jackson and Nora Jane; sister, Melissa Foster Jaramello (Art) of Hermitage, TN, and the Akers family members and spouses whom he considered his own siblings; many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Gt. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC. Visitation will be prior starting at 10:00 am.
