David’s primary business was the family grading company, D. W. Flowe & Son, Inc., which was begun in 1955. He could not ride anywhere in The Carolinas without saying, “Granddaddy (D.W.) built that, Chief (Ray Flowe) built that or I built that.” Notable projects completed by D.W. Flowe & Son, Inc. include: Charlotte Douglass Airport, Concord Regional Airport, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Carowinds, South Park Mall & I-77. David’s love for excellence was exhibited in his work through generational knowledge in the grading industry. He proudly carried out his grandfather’s motto “quality with speed.”
David had many hobbies & was talented in a multitude of areas. He was an extraordinary fisherman, USCG Master Captain of the family’s Scorpion Fisheries out of South Port, NC & owner of Crusader Guide Service. David was an exceptional pitt master and provided countless barbecues for his family, friends of Bill and his church. He taught his family how to keep honeybees and operated Golden Flowe Honey Bee Farm, Inc. David was a cowboy at heart and rodeo champion: he rode bulls and won third in the nation for cutting horses with his beloved horse Old Grey, and he also bred beef cattle.
Outside his grand accomplishments, David’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all his children, as they each do their part of continuing his legacy of excellence. Throughout his heartbreaking health decline, David never lost hope, he persevered and always found a reason to smile, laugh and enjoy life. He was always the life of the party with the funniest stories and a contagious laugh, he easily made friends from all walks of life. David was a brilliant, loving father and husband, who never lost sight of his vision for his family.
David is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Melanie Stanley Flowe, his children: Hollie Flowe Bittikofer, David Ray Flowe II (fianceé Kaylyn Michelle Bryson), Dusty William Flowe (wife Alyssa Briann Flowe) and Raymund Michael Flowe, his grandchildren: Jaxon Parker Flowe, Benjamin Chance Bittikofer & Chloë Skye Bittikofer, his siblings: Becky Flowe Ellis (husband Ronnie Ellis), Michael Walter Flowe (wife Sandy Flowe), Jeffrey Miller Flowe, and (sister in law Julie Strom Flowe).
