Dave was born January 29th, 1935, in Jackson Township, Iowa, the son of Guy and Gail Benton. He is the youngest of five siblings and has two brothers and two sisters. Dave worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and had a passion for working on tractors. Later in his adult life, he moved to North Carolina and continued his career working for John Deere and building his own tractor repair shop. He was known as the “best mechanic in town” and is recognized by many for being one of a kind in the industry.
Dave loved attending Nascar races every summer with friends and family and watching Norte Dame Football. These moments were some of his best memories and brought a smile to his face. He enjoyed traveling and taking road trips with friends and grandchildren and was an avid learner. He would stop anywhere to admire the land or explore a museum. Dave had a passion for farming and was an experienced worker on a dairy farm and enjoyed growing his own garden each year.
Dave is survived by his loving sister, Geneva Benton Whiting and loving brother, Lee Benton; sons, Erich Benton, Brett Benton-Werner, and Casey; and daughters, Jenafer Benton and Carol. Also surviving is grandchildren, Meagan Smith and Matthew Dailey, and nephew, Michael Benton.
Dave was preceded in death by a brother, John Benton, and a sister, Viola Benton and parents Guy and Gail Benton.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 27th, 2021 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina, 28227. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Dave’s home state of Iowa.
David, Dave, Papa, Grandpa…you will always be loved and missed greatly.
