Born, May 9th, 1945 in Washington, DC, David was the son of Clyde Wenston and Emily Frances Boyd. David’s Father, Clyde, was a Career Army man, but called Loris/Conway, S.C. home. David attended elementary school in Loris but the family then moved to the Maryland area.
David graduated from Frederick High School in Maryland, where he played football and ran track. He went on to study at Bridgewater College but was then drafted into the Army. After his basic training, he was assigned to Ft. Myer, VA, where he had the honor of serving the remainder of his two years in the prestigious Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.
Following his Army service, he began a career in the insurance industry with Baltimore Life Insurance Co. in Frederick, Md. In 1970, he moved to Hagerstown, MD where he joined Nationwide Insurance as an Agent and later an Agency Manager and lastly, as a Large Market and Regional Sales Manager in Charlotte, NC. David retired from Nationwide in 2000 after 30 years of service and much success.
David was an avid golfer during his working years . He enjoyed time sharing his stories of his vast and sometimes colorful experiences with family and friends. Also, he loved cooking his Low Country Boil for his Nationwide buddies and other friends. Being from the state of South Carolina, David developed an affinity for the Clemson Tigers and all who supported their team. In true Clemson form, David was wearing his Clemson ballcap when he left us.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sylvia Johnson Boyd, three children, Matthew D. Boyd (Anabel Nicholas), Fort Mill, S.C; Christopher L. Boyd (Stephanie), Cumming, GA; and Michael D. Allen (Sarah), Albany OR, and seven grandchildren; Nicholas Boyd, Sydney Boyd, Jamar Boyd, Kelcey Nicholas, Regan Allen, Hayden Allen and Grace Allen. He is survived by one brother, Mark Boyd of Conway, SC. He was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, brother Dennis Boyd, and sister, Margaret Thomas as well as his beloved Bichons, Missy and Molly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 11 am. A visitation and reception will follow.

David will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC at a later date.
