Daphne Penuel

Mrs. Penuel, age 89 of Matthews passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013 at Plantation Estates. She was born in Wayne County, NC on August 12, 1924 daughter of the late Luther H. Howell and Hattie Davis Howell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charlie Penuel and oldest son Charles, Jr. Daphne was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Her early years were highlighted by singing on the radio. She entertained her many friends in her later years through song at Vespers and meal time. She worked in Washington, DC during World War II and then followed Charlie as his work took him to several states across the South. As a homemaker she loved watching her NC State Wolfpack and telling stories about her “visits” with Elvis. Survivors are her son Patrick, his wife Cheri with grandchildren Claire and Thomas of Cornelius, NC and daughter in law Dawn with granddaughter Kimberly of Orlando, FL. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday September 12, 2013 at Sharon Memorial Park with a celebration of life to follow at 1:00 P. M. at Plantation Estates conducted by Chaplain Larry Watts and Reverend Doctor Al Cadenhead. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to University City United Methodist, CP Honduras Mission Fund, 3835 West W. T. Harris Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28269.
