Dan G. Broach, 97, passed away on June 18, 2018 in Charlotte, NC. He served 30 years in the US Armed Forces – a combination 10 years active US Army & 20 years in the SC & NC National Guard. His final military assignment prior to his retirement in 1969 was commander of the 3rd Battalion, 113th Artillery, NC National Guard. Colonel Broach was a native of Darlington, SC and graduated from St. John’s High School. He later graduated from Carolina Business College & The Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.
He retired in 1981 from Industrial Textile & Supply in Charlotte.
Colonel Broach was civic minded and active with the Special Olympics, Jaycees, Optimists, Toastmasters & Boy Scouts.
He was an active member and President & teacher of the Wesley Fellowship for over 50 years at University City United Methodist Church (previously Belmont Park UMC).
He is survived by his loving and patient wife of 75 years, Virginia; daughters Marsha (John) Gaither, Patti (Ernie) Welch, Laurie (Matt) Nowell; grandchildren, Shari Fullagar, Jef (Windy) Fullagar, Francie (Tony) Woodward, Johnny (Beth) Gaither, Mary Beth (Michael) Wilcox, Eric (Becca) Welch, Matthew Nowell; Great-grandchildren: Holly Hix, Kelsi (Bryant) Barber, Jack Fullagar, Wilson Fullagar, Allen Woodward, Cash Gaither, Emma Welch, Winnie Welch & Carter Welch.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 21 at University City United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Interment will follow the service at 4:00 p.m. in Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people smile. Above all else he served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the family he loved.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to University City UMC Building Fund, Charlotte, NC.
