Commander Michael W. Cooper

Mike is survived by his beloved daughter, Meredith Penney Cooper of Mint Hill, North Carolina. Mike's wife, Cynthia Penney Cooper, preceded him in death in 2015.

Mike was born on April 2,1945 in Santa Rosa, California to the late Henry "Wally" and Marjorie Cooper. He graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in engineering. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Mike proudly served his country for over 20 years as a Commander in the United States Navy. Following his Naval retirement, he retired a second time from Phillip Morris in 2007.

Mike was passionate about gardening. He was well known for his participation in many local community gardens, but most importantly his joy was in sharing what he grew. Other hobbies included woodworking, coffee roasting, and cooking. Those who knew Mike will remember him fondly for his dry sense of humor and quick wit. Those who loved Mike will forever remember him for being a great husband, father and friend.

His brothers; Christopher (Patricia) and Casey (Cynthia) Cooper, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive him.

Friends are invited to celebrate Mike's life at a Memorial Gathering on Sunday, February 5th between 1:00pm to 3:00pm at McEwen Funeral Service -Mint Hill Chapel 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road Mint Hill, NC 28227. Light refreshments will be served and memories will be shared.
