Clyde Thomas Saunders

Clyde Thomas Saunders, 88, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024. He was born in Henderson, NC on November 29, 1935. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956. In August that same year he married the love of his life Peggy and they were married for over 67 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children, Michael, David and Steven.

They moved to Charlotte in 1972 where Clyde worked in Finance, Real Estate and Sales. Clyde was a hard-working man. One you wouldn’t find sitting for long. In retirement he picked up woodworking as a hobby and became a master craftsman and furniture builder. He loved working with his hands and could build anything from wood. Clyde enjoyed making people laugh with his well-rounded humor and had an appreciation for nature as well. Gardening and bird watching were a sanctuary where he could find peace and escape the stresses of daily life.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Craig Saunders of Charlotte and parents Benjamin Franklin Saunders and Lena Myrtle McGhee Saunders both of Henderson, NC. He is survived by two sons Michael Thomas Saunders and David Scott Saunders and two daughters in law Melissa Saunders and Jodi Saunders. He had nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

A visitation for Clyde will be held Monday, March 18, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
