Clyde William Polk, Sr. passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born July 11, 1921, in Durham, NC, to the late Lela and William Marshall Polk. He was retired from Dixie Electric Motor Service in Charlotte after 40 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Kirby Polk; brother, Clarence E. Polk; and grandson, Joey B. Polk. He is survived by his children, Cindy Killian, husband Herman of Jonesboro, TN; Clyde Polk Jr. (Bill), wife Janis of Charlotte; and Jimmy Polk of Stanley; six grandchildren; seven great granddaughters; and special friend Peggy Jordan of Charlotte.
Clyde is a World War II veteran and served in the Army in England, France, Belgium and Germany. In 2013, he received the French Legion of Honor medal from the French Ambassador to the US for the participation in the Liberation of France.
He was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and Steele Creek Masonic Lodge where he was to receive a fifty year membership pin in the Masons, and was also a member of the Oasis Shrine.
Clyde was a loving and caring Christian man who loved the Lord. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him. A celebration and memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Baptist Church on Thursday, April 16th at 7:00 pm. Family and friends will be received at 6:00 pm preceding the service.
