Mr. Carroll, age 97 of Charlotte passed away Friday April 29, 2011, at University Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born October 2, 1913 in Van Wyck, SC, son of the late Thomas Ely and Mollie Estridge Carroll. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Louise McCoy Carroll and his second wife Katherine Hoover Carroll. Mr. Carroll was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church and retired from Carroll Allignment in 1975. He was a U.S Army veteran of WWII participating in the Normandy Invasion and across Europe, received the EAMET Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. Surviving are his sisters, Laura Williams of Columbia, SC, Lillian McAteer and her husband Winford of Lancaster, SC, step-sister Doris Hyatt and a step-daughter Frances Knell. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212 conducted by Reverend Bobby Morrow and Reverend Stan Heiser. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will Follow at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Ft. Mill, SC The family is so thankful to the staff of University Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the loving care given him.
