Born on July 2, 1936 in Hayes, NC to Willie Green Callahan and Lectia Coe Callahan, Ms. Garrison’s immediate family moved to Charlotte the following year. After graduation from East Mecklenburg High School, she married Malvin ‘Mal’ Cammack Garrison, Sr. on December 31, 1953. They celebrated 44 years of marriage before his passing in 1997.
Ms. Garrison worked in business administration/retail aspects in various fields including metallurgy and textiles before retiring from Barclays American Bank in the 1980’s.
A lover of traveling, gardening and her pets, Ms. Garrison was very creative and artistic. She was a master porcelain doll maker who spent time painting and working in stained glass. As a native Tar Heel, Ms. Garrison was a fan of basketball, NASCAR and the beach.
Left to mourn her loss are her beloved children Malvin Commack Garrison, Jr. (Elaine) of Chesterfield, SC, Timothy Scott Garrison of Rock Hill, SC and Wendy Garrison O’Connor of Little River, SC; precious granddaughters Lisa Nicole Lane (Chris) of Charleston, SC, Elizabeth Garrison of Hampstead, NC and loving sister Elaine Callahan Jones of Clover, SC.
Ms. Garrison is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Arnold Callahan, John Elmer Callahan, Clara Callahan Gross and Barbara Bean; grandson Ian Roderick O’Connor and many beloved pets including her most recent Chihuahuas, Joey and Bebe.
A graveside service is planned for Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11am at Sharon Memorial Park located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte.
