Charles Edward Wyke Sr.

Charles Edward Wyke Sr., 93, of Stanley passed away April 22, 2023 in Hickory, NC. Born February 13, 1930 in Lenoir, NC, he was the son of the Poley B. and Claudia I. (Turnmire) Wyke. He married Marjorie A. Ferrell on February 25, 1951 in Gastonia, NC.

A U.S. Navy Veteran, Charles served his country during the Korean War. Charles retired from Sears after 42 years of employment as a TV/Appliance repairman. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Newton, NC.

Charles loved gospel music, singing and playing his guitar. An avid wood worker, he spent time in his shop making and repairing furniture along with other pieces following his retirement. He also loved fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Melody Gay Railey (Walter), Wanda Raiford and Eddie Wyke (Shelia); 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great-grandchildren; brother, William “Bill” Wyke; sister, Ruby Toomey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Eugene Wyke.
