Born September 6, 1959 in Morganton, NC, Charles was the son of Jacquelyn “Jackie” Steed Wray and the late Charles W. Wray, Jr., who were both formerly of Raleigh. He was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and continued his education at CPCC, where he earned a degree in Horticulture.
He enjoyed a successful career as the founder and owner of Sun Wray Landscaping. His interests always centered on the outdoors and nature. He especially enjoyed the water and time spent in Wilmington, and exploring the Barrier Islands of North Carolina. His love for animals, including turtles and snakes, was evident as a child and carried over into his association with the Nature Museum.
He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and also served on the Board of Trustees for PMC, a real estate management company.
In addition to his mother, Charles is survived by his wife, April Johnson Wray, both of Charlotte; and his niece, Elizabeth Charles Givens, of Rock Hill.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Susan Wray Givens.
A service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14 at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road. His family will receive friends at the church following the service. Private interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
