Charlotte - Charles "Charlie" LeGrand Wooten, 71, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 8, 2014. He was born September 30, 1942 in Greenwood, SC, a son of the late Joseph Fletcher Wooten, Sr. and Margaret Chase Dean Wooten.
Mr. Wooten served his country as a member of the SC Air National Guard. He graduated from Richland Technical College with a degree in mechanical engineering. Charlie had been employed by the Schultz Engineering Group for 38 years, and partner for the past 10 years. He was a member of St. John's Baptist Church and ASHRAE, where he served as treasurer. Charlie was a volunteer for the Seniors PGA Tournament at Piper Glen for many years. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and listening to beach music. Charlie was the happiest when spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, family and friends. He loved a great practical joke and was always smiling.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Beverly McNeil Wooten; daughters, Christie Higgins (Bill) of Weddington, NC, and Marnie Chambers of Concord, NC; son, Troy Wooten of Charlotte, NC; sister, Helen Goforth (Jim) of Gaffney, SC; brothers, Joseph Wooten (Marylinn) of Atlanta, GA, and Rusty Wooten (Tammy) of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Clint Chambers, Caroline Chambers, Chase Chambers, Connor Higgins, Camryn Higgins, Gina Higgins, and Kelley Higgins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Eulie Mae Starnes Wooten.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16th at St. John's Baptist Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis Foust officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
