It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Bradford “Brad” Smith, 59, of Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 30, 2025. Brad, known for his larger-than-life personality, infectious laughter, and adventurous spirit, was a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend whose zest for life left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on April 5, 1965, in Charlotte, Brad was the beloved son of the late William Frederick “Freddie” Smith and Nancy Lee Mills Smith. He was a graduate of Furman University, where he built the foundation for a life characterized by curiosity, hard work, and a passion for making meaningful connections. Brad devoted many successful years to the real estate industry, where he thrived as a broker and investor, helping to shape the landscape of his community and earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Brad was a true adventurer at heart. As both a private pilot and a boat captain, he had an insatiable love for exploring the skies and navigating the waters. His passion for travel took him across the globe, filling his life with remarkable experiences that he loved sharing with friends and family. Brad’s sense of adventure was matched only by his deep generosity and warmth.
At the center of Brad’s life was his devoted wife of 37 years, Tammy Smith, who stood by his side through life’s many adventures. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Though they had no children, Brad’s love extended to his family and friends, and his presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Brad is survived by his loving sister, Melodie Smith Carswell, and her husband, Eddie Carswell, as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A service to celebrate Brad’s life will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Church Lane, Charlotte, NC.
