Mr. Rogers, age 86, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014 Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. Born February 22, 1928 in Waynesville, he was a son of the late Lyman B. Rogers and Mary Brooks Rogers. Mr. Rogers served as a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a driver of Trailways after 30 years of service.
The family will receive friends 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Friday at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Henry Nichols, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Kathryn Trantham Rogers; two sons, Charles Avery Rogers, Jr. and wife, Bunny, of Mint Hill and Keith Rogers and wife, Felicia, of Locust; two grandchildren, Brian Rogers and Shelby Rogers; two sisters, Ivadean Arrington of Waynesville and Maxine Nichols of Shelby; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by three brothers, Buddy Rogers, Troy Rogers and Marcel Rogers; and a sister, Lucille Yarborough.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8947 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
