Charles Donald Massey Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Charles Massey and Mary Suggs Massey; and his sister, Susan Massey.

The oldest of four children, Donnie was born on December 26, 1956 in Charlotte. He grew up in the Charlotte area and attended Garringer High School.

Following high school, Donnie got a job working for UPS as a Package Sorter, and from there he worked and exceled at many different jobs over the years, becoming a sort of jack-of-all-trades. For nearly the last decade, Donnie worked as a Truck Driver for Hoopaugh Grading Company in Charlotte, earning himself the nickname “Road Rabbit.” He was a treasured member of the Hoopaugh family.

Everyone in Donnie’s life – family, friends, and coworkers alike – knew and loved him for his kindness, sense of humor, and his willingness to talk to anyone around him. Donnie never met a stranger.

Those left to honor Donnie’s memory include his children, Brandie Hull (Britt), Donald Curtis Massey (Heather), and Jonathan Brian Massey (Seterria); his grandchildren, Liam, Elijah, Cassidy, Joniyah, Desiray, Unique, Armani, Shonta, Nivea, and Jeremiah; his siblings, Lisa Kiser (Chuck) and Tim Massey; and his former spouse, Sandra C. Massey; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

The funeral service is to be conducted at 11:00am on Monday, October 31, 2022 in the Paul Helton Chapel at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte, where Pastor David Wilson is to officiate.

The burial will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
