Charles Francis Leeper

Charles Francis Leeper “Pete” went to be with our Heavenly Father on April 24, 2011. Charles was born on April 6, 1922 in Charlotte, NC, on the original Severs Avenue now known as Trade Street. Charles met the love of his life, Sarah Virginia Blocker in the sixth grade. They married and celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in January of 2011.

Charles served in the Seabees during World War II and was stationed in the New Hebrides Islands, Guam, Admiralty Islands, and served at Pearl Harbor. He was a Chief Petty Officer and a Jujitsu Instructor.

Charles was a commercial insulator and returned to work for Guy M. Beaty and Southeastern Insulation. He went into business for himself opening General Fab Co. and A-Applied Insulation Co. He was owner of WesLee, Inc. and partner of Grand Paws Den.

Charles was a member of Kilgo United Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Class and served on the Hospitality Committee. He was a member of the New Edition church group.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Virginia Blocker Leeper, his father Charles M. Leeper, his mother Beulah Severs Leeper, brothers William A. Leeper and James Carlton Leeper, sisters Ethel Louise Conner and Martha Elizabeth Waltman and a special son-in-law Lindly Hall Westbrook.

Charles is survived by his daughter Sarah Leeper Westbrook of Rock Hill, SC; his son Charles Richard Leeper and wife Diane of Charleston, SC; favorite granddaughter Sherrie W. Keaton of Matthews, three grandsons Brian L. Westbrook and wife Cindy of Waxhaw, C. Christopher Leeper and wife Maureen of Summerville, SC; Nicholas A. Leeper of Charleston, SC; great grandson Jordan B. Keaton and great granddaughter Ashley P. Westbrook.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Kilgo United Methodist Church, 2101 Belvedere Avenue in Charlotte. Memorials can be made to Kilgo United Methodist Church or to the Shriners Hospital through Oasis Temple, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262.
