"Charlie"
Mr. Ezell, 84, passed away March 6, 2012 at the Carriage Club of Charlotte. Charlie was born August 25, 1927 in Graham, NC, son of the late Charles Lacy Ezell, Jr. and Gladys Knight Ezell. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Warden Ezell.
Charlie graduated from Durham High School and enlisted in the Navy, but was spared from battle as WWII ended shortly thereafter. He enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Charlie enjoyed sharing stories with his family about the times that he spent in the Navy and at UNC. He was always so proud of being a Tarheel fan, and especially loved cheering on the "Heels" in basketball and football for the next 62 years after he graduated. He was such a loyal friend to many, and kept in touch with friends throughout his life from Durham High School and Chapel Hill as well.
Charlie joined the Accounting firm, A.M. Pullen, after he moved to Charlotte. After travelling for several years, he met and married Bonnie Patricia Warden. Bonnie and Charlie enjoyed 28 years together while raising their three daughters. Charlie worked tirelessly as a CPA and Financial Controller for over 40 years, and spent time with his family travelling and attending all of the events his daughters were involved with.
Later in life, Charlie found happiness living at the Carriage Club. He made many friends with the staff and residents there, and for all of those caring and hard working people, his family is truly grateful. He had a ball singing with the entertainers and stayed active attending many of the special events hosted by The Carriage Club Assisted Living and Healthcare Community.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Diana Dell Ezell; his daughters, Christy and Patti Ezell, Heather Dautel and her husband Mike; and his two beloved grandsons, Drew and Stewart.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with a visitation one hour prior. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends at the residence of Heather and Mike Dautel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
