Charles Ray Dunn

Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, May 17 at The Vine United Methodist Church, with Dr. Susan Heafner-Heun officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service.

Charles was born January 8, 1950, son of Raiford Franklin Dunn and Dorothy Fay Caudle Dunn, in Charlotte. He graduated from Hardaway High School in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Columbus College in 1972. In 1983, Charles decided to study piano tuning and repair at Central Piedmont Community College, where he received his diploma in 1984. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and a member of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Charles accepted the position of organist at Kilgo United Methodist Church in 1973. He also tuned and repaired many pianos in the area as Charles Dunn Piano Service. His other interests included model trains, square dancing, bowling and tracing his family tree.

Charles is survived by his wife of 41 years, Laura Sjodahl Dunn, two children, Andrew Franklin Dunn of Indian Trail and Rebecca Marie Dunn and husband Jim Kite of Newport News, Virginia, sister Faye Dunn Neil and her husband Chuck of York, South Carolina, half brother Raiford Dunn Jr and his wife Nina of Coleman, Florida and half sister Gertie Dunn Stoudt and husband Leonard of Jacksonville, Florida, and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Vine United Methodist Church, 2101 Belvedere Avenue, Charlotte NC 28205.
