Charlene W. Wallace

She was born July 7, 1935 in Ames, Texas (Coryell County) to Charley Brown Wilson and Susan Loutishia Benner Wilson. She attended Gatesville High School until she met a soldier stationed at Fort Hood while working at the Dairy Queen. A few weeks later, she married Benny Neal Wallace and they drove away to North Carolina to start a marriage that lasted 57 years until his death in 2010. She lived in North Carolina but never forgot Texas. She stayed ‘Texas Strong’ until Jesus called her home.

She is survived by son, Charles, daughter Sharon Hinson (Bill) and Susan Elaine Rogers (Marvin). She was blessed with granddaughters Amanda Hinson and Susan Kirk, grandsons John Wallace, Cody Rogers and Noah Rogers, great grandchildren Olivia Kirk, Alice Kirk and Ellie Hemmings. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Benny, brothers Ben Ed Wilson and Philip Anthony Wilson and daughter-in-law Jo Wallace.

Charlene worked at Employers Mutual Insurance. She was an excellent cook and a lover of country music. We were blessed with a wonderful loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and Nana. Unfortunately, she was also a lover of stubborn beagles (Ginger Wallace), who is now ruling the roost.

A visitation for Charlene will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. A memorial service follow 11:30 AM. Charlene will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
