Carolyn, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at her home, The Laurels, in Charlotte. She was in the company of her loving family and in the devoted care of hospice and the wonderful care given to her by the staff at The Laurels.
Born March 29, 1933 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Lee Wicks and Sara McCoy Wicks. Following graduation from Robert E. Lee High School in 1950 located in Jacksonville, FL, Carolyn furthered her education at Massey Business College studying secretarial business courses.
In 1950, Carolyn met a young man stationed at Naval Station Mayport, also located in Jacksonville, FL. His name was Marvin F. Schubert and held the rank of AK3 in the United States Navy.
They were married on April 26, 1952 and began their marriage with a transfer to the Naval Air Base in San Diego, CA until his discharge in April 1953.
Carolyn and Marvin began their family in Jacksonville with the birth of their oldest son in 1954 and twins in 1957.
The joy of Carolyn’s life was her family and was a devoted housewife and loved raising her three sons. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, and later in life a member of the Starmount ARP Church in Charlotte, NC.
She is now with Marvin who passed on August 7, 2017. She will be buried with her husband of 65 years at Salisbury National Cemetery.
She is survived by her three children, Marvin F. Schubert III (Patty), Michael J. Schubert (Mary Louise) and Mark K. Schubert (Jennete); also two beloved grandchildren Lauren Schubert Middleton (Greg) and Hannah Marie Perpetue. She also has two great-grandchildren Reed Middleton and Nora Middleton.
A service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held at Starmount ARP Church, 1501 Starbrook Drive, Charlotte, NC at 10:30am on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Interment for the family only will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery following the service.
