Carolyn Osborn Peniston passed away peacefully October 2, 2014. She was born November 1, 1926 in New York City and lived in Charlotte for 45 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Osborn, and her husband of 65 years, Richard H. Peniston, with whom she shared a great life.
Carolyn graduated from Rutgers, married and moved from the city to a side hill, beef farm in Allegany County, NY. She left behind her love of the opera, ballet, and fashion to raise her family with the love of her life. As the farm life lost its appeal, she and Dick returned to city life, and ultimately Charlotte.
Always elegant, Carolyn was a great cook, loved large family holiday gatherings, and a dry martini. She loved her friends dearly, and they shared book clubs, walks, opera, ballet and Democratic causes.
Carolyn volunteered at the hospital, worked to feed the homeless, and was a PTA president and 4-H club leader.
She is survived by her brother, Donald R. Osborn (Maite) of NYC; sister, Phyllis M. Muir (Hugh) of Fredericksburg, VA; her children, Richard A. Peniston (Jane) of Charlotte, James R. Peniston (Melinda) of Charlotte, and Nancy L. Peniston (Tracey) of Branford, CT; her grandchildren, Stefan R. Peniston (Kathy), and Teresa A. Pensiton (Kevin); and her great grandchildren, Jay, Will, and Sofia.
We see the world through her eyes, she gave us compassion for those in need, laughter and joy for the moment, and freedom to create our own identity. We miss you Mama.
