Carolyn Theresa Ballard

After graduating Cheraw High School, she attended Mercy School of Nursing in Charlotte NC, where she received her BS, RN. During these years she met her life-long friend, who she quickly considered a sister, Modestine Tidwell Smith. She went on to attend Thomas Jefferson University where she received her CRNA. Then on to Johns Hopkins University for her Master’s and PH.D in Anesthesia.

In 1972 she met her life-long partner Robert Ballard. They were married in 1975 and from this union was born a son, Lanse Shelbert Ballard.

She enjoyed her career and it allowed her the pleasure of traveling all corners of the world spreading her knowledge and passion.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Calvin (Sonny) McDonnell.

She leaves to cherish her mother, Lillian M. Tucker; husband, Robert Ballard; son, Lanse S. Ballard (Miranda); sisters, Deborah McDonnell Frazier, Cheryl McDonnell Wilson (Coleman); brothers, Charles Calvin McDonnell, Jr. (Julia), Alfred H. McDonnell (Rhonda); grandchildren, Juwaun Xavier Ballard, Nicholas Landon Ballard, and Laila Isabelle Ballard. She also leaves nephews, Shawn L. Frazier, Duriel Scott McDonnell (Janell), Calvin T. McDonnell (Melissa), Nieces Simone Frazier Rucker, and Myranda McDonnell Myers (Rashad); and a host of great nieces and nephews.
