Mrs. Jackson was born on January 31, 1928 in Camden, SC, the daughter of the late Lawrence Walker McFadden and Eunice Long McFadden. She was a 1945 graduate of Rock Hill High School where she played flute, was a drum majorette in the marching band, and sang in the choir. Mrs. Jackson earned her Bachelor and Master Degrees from Winthrop College.
As a fourth generation teacher, Mrs. Jackson taught Business subjects in Fort Mill, Pickens, and South Mecklenburg High Schools; and taught for 24 years at West Charlotte High School. She was elected President of the South Carolina Business Educators Association, and served as club advisor for yearbook, prom, and FBLA.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Board of Directors for the Community School of the Arts, Windsor Park PTA board member, and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader.
Mrs. Jackson joined Amity Presbyterian Church in 1961 where she faithfully served as an Elder and received the Lifetime Membership Award from the Presbyterian Women. She also led the first ‘Mother’s Morning Out’ at Amity, was a member of the Education Committee, the Worship Committee, the Amity Amiables, and the Home Communion Committee.
Preceding her in death were her husband, William Floyd Jackson; daughter, Claire Michele Jackson; her brothers, John W. McFadden and the Honorable Judge Robert L. McFadden.
Surviving her is her daughter, Karen Jackson Guild, her son-in-law, Matthew Guild, her two granddaughters, Kathryn Rose Guild and Maria Caroline Guild, and many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service is planned for 11:00 am Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Amity Presbyterian Church, officiated by Betsy Williamson. Visitation will take place from 10 am to
11 am on Tuesday in the church parlor, 2831 N. Sharon Amity Rd, Charlotte, NC 28205.
Graveside committal services will take place at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 4858 McConnells Highway, York, SC 29745.
