Carol Dellinger Rodgers, 90, of Charlotte, NC died peacefully on Thursday evening, the 4th of August, 2022 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House located on the Southminster Retirement Community Campus with her youngest daughter and sweet Hospice nurse by her side. She was born on the 26th of May , 1932 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the oldest daughter of the late Vertie Lyles and Paul Everette Dellinger. Carol attended the Old Harding High School. In 1949, at age 17, she married Jerome Whitney Rodgers, Sr. (11-13-28 – 12-25-05).
They made their home in Charlotte, NC with their 3 children until Jerome’s retirement from the Charlotte Fire Department. They built a home on Lake Norman in Mooresville where they both lived until Jerome died on Christmas Day, 2005. In 2007, Carol downsized into a smaller home in Cornelius, NC until 2017 when she moved into an Assisted Living facility in Charlotte.
Carol was a proud and devoted mother who enjoyed her family and friends. She was incredibly compassionate, understanding and had a way of finding the best in everyone. Her strong faith helped guide her through difficult times and was a guiding force in her life. Her smile, the joy in her spirit and her encouragement and witnessing to others to share God’s plan of salvation over the years extended into her last days in the Assisted Living facilities. She also was an encouragement to her friends in both Assisted Living facilities she lived in to "not complain" if they were having a bad day or in pain, but to pray and to keep moving and work hard in therapy. Carol was a true “fighter” and enjoyed living, serving God and reading her Bible every day. She also enjoyed “shopping 'till she dropped” until she was no longer physically able to do so.
Carol is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Ann Rodgers, Diane Rodgers Cline and husband Herbert Eugene Cline, III, four grandchildren: Sheri Lynn Rodgers, Jason Scott Rodgers and his wife, Sarah, LeAnn Christenbury Sek, and husband Sonara and Michael Christenbury and four great grandchildren: Kobe Sek, Kayden Sek, Adam Rodgers, Allie Rodgers; her daughter-in-law, Janet Barnes Caskey and 2 Black and Tan dachshunds, her “granddogs”, Baron Von Cline and Eva Von Cline.
