She was born in Hurley, SD on March 20, 1935, the daughter of Olivia and Edward Dickman. Carol traveled with her parents across the country as she was growing up, and graduated from Escondido High School in Escondido, CA. Following graduation, Carol worked for Bank of America and got married in 1953. In 1976, she joined Lutheran Bible Translators and Wycliffe Bible Translators and served with them overseas in Papua New Guinea and in the United States.
She is survived by five children, Jeffrey Fitzgerald, Rory Fitzgerald, Greg Fitzgerald, Janelle Bruner, and Joy Winters; one special adopted son, Stephen Thomas; twenty-two grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bruce Fitzgerald and one son, Tyrone Fitzgerald.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a celebration of her life in Christian ministry. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8300 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC at 10:00 am.
