Carol Clokey Donaldson

Carol Clokey Donaldson (Charlotte, NC), 80, peacefully passed away on July 12, 2024 after complications from a stroke, she was born to Samuel J Clokey and Dorthey Skinner Clokey in Washington, PA. Carol graduated from Trinity High School, Washington, Pa in 1961, she went on to study Education and Political Science at Western College for Women now a part of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

In 1965 Carol was a schoolteacher in Cecil, Pa and Washington, Pa. In 1966 Carol married John Donaldson, they were married for 57 years, and had a son, Edward Donaldson. Carol served in numerous political and volunteer organizations. She was very active in the Republican Party and served in many leadership positions, some of those positions were North Carolina 9th Congressional District- Chairman, Mecklenburg County Party - Chairman, Mecklenburg County Republican Women – President; various other executive board positions, served on various Republican candidate campaigns, Republican Party national Committee Member and delegate to national conventions. Carol also served as a board member with Florence Crittenton Foundation in Charlotte. Carol was awarded NC Republican of the Year Award, “Write Women Back Into History Award”, and other awards.

Carol loved the Lord and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, reading, bowling, and garden clubs.

Carol was pre-deceased by her father, mother, and sister. She is survived by her husband, John Donaldson; her son, Edward Donaldson; Daughter-In Law Bethany Donaldson; Grandchildren: Stephen Donaldson, Luke Donaldson, Catherine Scarlett Donaldson; Sister In-Laws: Wilma Donaldson, Jodi Donaldson; Brother In-Laws: Robert M Donaldson; Thomas Kepel; Several nieces and nephews: Storey Berman, Aaron Donaldson, and Grand nephew Revel Berman.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Sardis Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC on August 10 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnel to Tower Foundation, Florence Crittenton Foundation, or Wounded Warrior Fund.
