Lamar Johnson, 78, of Charlotte, passed away at his home September 10, 2011 surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He was born on November 10, 1932 in Greenville, South Carolina. Lamar served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and later became a CPA. After graduating college he worked for the GAO and then went into private practice with his partner and friend Eldridge Mixon. Lamar was an avid Gamecock fan and longtime member and former board member of Carmel Country Club. On a clear day he would most likely be found on the golf course. Lamar worked at North Myrtle Beach in his youth and was also a Living Legend and in the Shagger's Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by his mother Emmy Lou Campbell and stepfather Otis Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Linda Johnson, son Michael Johnson and stepchildren Mark and Margaret Whitlock, grandchildren Hanna and Zoe Whitlock. He is also survived by his brother Charlie Johnson and his children. Lamar was a rare gem of a man that you could always go to with a problem and he could always be counted on to do what was right no matter the cost.
