He was born on December 29, 1932 in Quinton, OK to William Jesse Bennight and Carrie Bickers Bennight. He began his US Air Force career in 1950, retiring in 1971. He pursued a second career with Ruan Leasing, retiring in 1996. In retirement he enjoyed working as a host for Chick-Fil-A Southpark, and is remembered by many as "Chick-Fil-A Buddy". He was a longtime member of Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, serving many positions including Usher and Deacon Emeritus.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 73 years, Nancy Bennight, son Mark Bennight (Kathryn), daughter Carol Bennight Arant (David), son Bryan Bennight (Jane), 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and daughter, Cheryl.
Buddy will be laid to rest at a private family graveside service with US Air Force Funeral honors. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
