Brian was a good man who loved his family and friends dearly. His smile lit up a room. We will miss the sound of his laughter, his sense of humor and the sparkle in his eyes. He was a light in our world.
Brian was born on an Air Force base, the youngest of six children. His family moved to Charlotte when he was three where he grew up and lived the rest of his life. He was a graduate of Independence High School.
He had a wide range of interests. Brian loved to cook. He slow-cooked killer pulled pork barbecue for family gatherings and mixed up and baked the cornbread turkey dressing for our holiday dinners. He loved cheering on the Panthers, pulling for the Tar Heels, and watching Nascar. He loved the thrill of white water rafting on the New Gauley, enjoyed attending concerts, played a mean game of Scrabble, and was an avid reader, especially of Clive Cussler novels. In recent years his family knew not to call Brian between 7 and 7:30 because he and his little Chihuahua Bitsy would be busy watching Jeapordy. He knew many of the answers and only felt completely satisfied if he solved final Jeapordy.
Brian was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He had some good lifelong friends. He had a caring, generous heart and helped others out with both time and money whenever he could. In the two years before our mother’s passing, when she was no longer able to beat him at Scrabble, he spent many hours simply keeping her company. He was a joy and a comfort to her in her last illness.
Brian left us too soon. We know that love is eternal and the separation is only temporal. Still, we miss him.
Brian is survived by his brothers, David Burnette and John Burnette; his sisters, Janet Bennett (Eddie) and Jade Fisher (George); his chihuahua, Bitsy; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
