Billy Edward Sessoms, age 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina formerly of Fayetteville, North Carolina, transitioned to his heavenly home on October 25, 2023. He was born to the late Edward and Pearl Sessoms on March 22, 1939, in Hoke County, North Carolina.
A 1957 graduate of Hope Mills High School in Hope Mills, NC, he joined the U.S. Army and retired in 1980. Bill was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Meritorious Service Medal and six Good Conduct Medals.
Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army, he joined ADT Security Services, from which he retired. Bill was an elder of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church and a substitute teacher of the Adult Class. He loved his collection of songs and spent many hours searching and cutting CD's. Bill was President of the Fayetteville Area Shag Club and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2004. He served as a board member of the Competitive Shaggers Association. Shag Dancing and Golfing were his favorite sports and he even had a Hole-in-One a few years back. Bill was also a lifetime Shriner.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents, Ed and Avis Sessoms, John and Pearl Quick and a brother, Ricky Sessoms.
Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joan; sons, Mike Sessoms (Tracie), Brian Sessoms (Sallie) and Trey Anglin (Meredith); sisters, Harriett S. Davis, Mary Kate Thompson and Vicky Jane Harmon (Chris); nephews, Jeff Davis (Tiffany), Marcus Quick (Jane); nieces, Marta Strock (Ben) and Lynn Smith (Terry); grandchildren: Hannah Sessoms, Ashley Rogers (Nathan), Katie Sessoms, Amie Sessoms, David Sessoms, Emma Anglin and Ed Anglin; and a great-grandson, Liam Rogers.
A Celebration of Life for Billy will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Billy's name to the Shriners Hospital or the American Heart Association.
