Billy Leon Goff, age 84, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 peacefully after a courageous battle with duodenal cancer. He was born on November 18, 1939, in Stevenson, AL. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Billy was raised by his beloved mother, Lula Dobbins Goff, in Stevenson and later moved to Chattanooga, TN as a young boy. He graduated from Red Bank High School in Chattanooga in 1958.
Weeks after graduation, Billy enlisted in the Air National Guard and received an honorable discharge on February 24, 1960. Billy then enrolled in the Army National Guard on May 22, 1960, and received an honorable discharge as an Expert Rifleman on January 5, 1964. Billy worked in retail shoe stores while serving our country for six years.
He grew up in the country with very modest means. Billy persevered with a bright business mind and a strong work ethic. Billy’s professional career was in the women’s footwear industry. He worked for Wohl Shoe Company as a Retail GMM and moved to Charlotte, NC in 1968. In 1976, Billy began a successful career in the wholesale shoe business. He was instrumental in building many brands, including Bare Traps, 9 West, and Sam & Libby. He retired at 62 to spend more time with his wife, family, and friends. Billy was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses, and spending time at his farm and mountain home.
Billy was ready spiritually, as he knew he was being called Home. Billy always put his wife, Kay Condra Goff, before himself during his sickness and health. Kay was his high school sweetheart, and they married on May 21, 1961. Billy and Kay had the most beautiful marriage for nearly 63 years.
Billy Goff is survived by his cherished wife, Kay Condra Goff, and their two children, Gregory L. Goff and his wife (Ginger) and Kimberly Dee Goff and her husband (Steven); grandchildren Gregory T. Goff (Kinsley), Taylor Brown (Matt), and Steven Ward (Lindsey); seven great-grandchildren; and his loving brother Gene Edward Goff.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Susan LeGrand at Levine Cancer Institute and the nursing staff at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster for taking excellent and loving care of Billy.
Services will be held at McEwen Funeral Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, 28210 on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 with the visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM followed by funeral service at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will follow immediately afterwards at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the Goff family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
