Beverly A McIntyre

On Monday, July 29, 2019 Beverly Ann (Liggett) McIntyre, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Beverly was born in Nashville, TN on October 22, 1933.

Beverly Married Horace Wilbur (Bill) McIntyre on November 6, 1954. She is survived by her husband Bill, her four children, Tim McIntyre, his wife Laurie, Bryan McIntyre, Kathy McIntyre, her partner Teresa Nichols, Kyle McIntyre, his partner Scott Culp and 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and preceded in death by her daughter in-law Gail McIntyre, wife of Bryan. She is also survived by countless people who considered her and called her Mom.

She graduated from East Nashville High School in 1951 where she was Home Coming Queen. Beverly moved to Colorado with her parents where she qualified for the Miss Colorado pageant by winning the Miss Aurora pageant in 1953. Beverly finished in second place and took over the Miss Colorado crown after the winner was unable to fulfill her duties.

Beverly has always been a mover and shaker wherever she goes. When the family moved to Ocean Springs MS in 1968, she was instrumental in creating a new fundraiser for the local Little League charter by producing a women’s baseball game full of antics and pranks on players, coaches, umpires etc. Her and several other ladies promoted the event on local TV thereby creating a great success. Beverly even implemented the old “grapefruit painted like a baseball trick”, which exploded in the umpire’s face to the crowd’s delight!

Beverly traveled with her husband around the world and lived in several different countries, experienced many different cultures and enjoyed their food. In 1972, the family moved to Athens Greece and drove around the countryside every weekend to explore history, enjoy local foods, and meet interesting people. In 1981 Beverly followed Bill to Saudi Arabia, which began a long era of worldwide travel with Yanbu as the central hub.

Beverly and Bill moved to Charlotte in 1988. Beverly’s love for travel led her to become a travel agent and then to open her own agency, Pink Fairy Travels that catered to the gay and lesbian community.

Beverly became an active ally in the local LGBTQ community. She gave her time to LGBTQ organizations PFLAG and Metrolina AIDS Project. She was a board member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association. Beverly also served on the board of the Charlotte Business Guild and briefly as president of the Guild.

Beverly had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and would sing unprovoked. She had earned a music scholarship to Loretta Heights College in Denver Colorado due to her exquisite, wide ranging singing voice.

Beverly sang with One Voice Chorus here in Charlotte. In 2013 Beverly was honored by the LGBTQ community through Pride Charlotte as the inaugural Champion of Pride’s Outstanding Ally award which she shared with her husband Bill.

Beverly was a loving, kind and generous human being. Beverly and Bill always taught their children to be considerate and love all human beings, as all have a place in the world. She demonstrated that love, by accepting all people and opened her home on Christmas to many but especially to those rejected by their own family. She will be honored and remembered fondly for many years to come.
