Betty Joan Willingham

Betty Joan Durnin Willingham, 80, passed away at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate on February 18, 2018 after her battle with cancer. She was born on May 31, 1937 in Charlotte, NC to Lawrence Phillip Durnin and Carolyn Elizabeth Neece.

Betty grew up in Charlotte. She is a 1956 graduate of Harding High School. Betty married Bobby Willingham in 1958 in Charlotte. They were married for 19 years. Betty is a member of Sharon Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Durnin and Carolyn Elizabeth Willingham (Neece) and her husband, James Robert Willingham. She is survived by her sister, Carole Willingham Freeze (Donald) of Harrisburg, NC; her sons, Joseph, James and Robert, all of Charlotte; daughters, Patricia Willingham Wilson (Brian) of Morehead, KY and Michelle Willingham Ladd (William) of Mint Hill, NC; granddaughters, Jennifer Willingham of Kannapolis, NC and Monique Hartog Conner (Jesse) of Yakima, WA; grandson, Ken Hartog of Nashville, TN; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Sharon Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Tuesday, February 20th. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21st at Sharon Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Lawyers Road, Mint Hill.
