Betty was a remarkable woman who embodied faith, love, and dedication to her family and community. Born on March 26, 1930, Betty spent a lifetime creating memories, serving others, and living her beliefs with conviction.
She was a proud graduate of Thomasboro High School in Charlotte, NC, and continued to impact her community throughout her life. A founding member of Idlewild Baptist Church and later a member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte and Mercy Church, her unwavering faith and commitment were evident in all she did. Betty served diligently on the IBC By-Law Committee and contributed to Vacation Bible School, sharing her time and talents to make a difference in the lives of many.
With a deep love for her family, Betty was happiest surrounded by the people she cared about most. She enjoyed gardening and yard work, listening to sermons that strengthened her faith, and treasured trips to the beach where she spent precious moments with loved ones. Betty’s love for her son and her family will remain her defining legacy.
Betty will be remembered by her steadfast faith, strong character, and the lasting influence she had on those who knew her. She leaves behind countless memories and an enduring impact on the lives of those she loved.
She is survived by her son, D. Mark Leazer (Kim); grandchildren, Beth Freeman (Alan) and Emily Maurer (David); great grandchildren; James Freeman, Natalie Freeman, Charlotte Maurer, Benjamin Maurer, and Adeline Maurer; sister, Alma C. Sizemore; special niece, Carol Vanno, along with many other nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, William D. Leazer; parents, William A. Cato and Isabelle Cook Cato; sister, Maybelle C. Donaldson and brothers, Howard, Clyde, Earl, and Bud Cato.
A visitation for Betty will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC 28227, followed by a funeral service at 11:00AM in the chapel. Betty will be laid to rest privately at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
