18, 2015. She was born April 20, 1929, in Charlotte, NC…a true native Charlottean! She was preceded in death by her
husband Bill of 65 years, her parents Martha Irene Eaker, Ernest M. & Lucille M. Ellington, and her brother “Pete”
Donald M. Ellington.
She was a lifetime member at First Baptist Church, Charlotte. She and Bill were very active with their adult S.S. class forging long-lasting friendships. Most of her working career was spent in the accounting field. Betty was a loving wife, mom, mom-in-law, best Mema ever, sister, aunt & daughter, additionally was a breast cancer survivor for over 30 yrs and a real sassy piece of work! She loved doing crafts, such as macramé, cross-stitch, sewing and hand-crafted eggs in her younger days! Betty enjoyed doing the newspaper Crossword Puzzles and Word Searches. And she loved her morning coffee! One of her favorite game shows was Wheel of Fortune. When her children were younger, the family traveled throughout the Southeast; but her favorite place was going to their beach home in Garden City, SC; she loved having family join them at the beach whenever it was possible. Many a summer vacation was spent there.
Betty is survived by her daughter Linda K. Atwell, son David & wife Kathi, son Tom & wife Cecilia, 7 grandchildren: Ashley A. Womack (Joe) & Brian Atwell, Jena K. Hudson (Chris) & Luci Koester, and Zach, Meghan Veit (Adam) & Emily Koester, loving sister-in-law Eleanora, brothers-in-law Fred (Monie) & Johnny (Francine) as well as many nieces & nephews and grand-nieces & grand-nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service immediately following the Visitation from 2-3 p.m. will be held on Tuesday, September 22, at McEwen Funeral Home, 5716 Monroe Road. Pastor Michael Cummings will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
