Mrs. Holbrook was born on January 9, 1927 in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Bundy Oscar and Collie Blanche Sherin.
Betty “Jo” was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dedicated servant of God. She was the youngest of six older sisters. Jo’s parents died when she was very young. She and three of her sisters went to a children’s home in Tiffin, Ohio. She remembers her home kids “family” with loving fondness. She often shared tender memories of her childhood.
She moved back to Columbia, SC after graduating high school where she met her husband Frank Inman Holbrook while working at Southern Bell. They were happily married for 58 years, establishing their home, and raising their children in Charlotte, NC. Jo enjoyed singing in the church choir, visiting extended family in South Carolina and Georgia; providing home-cooked meals and entertaining family and friends, painting, and gardening. Many would describe her as humble and kind, warm and inviting, full of life with charm and charisma. Betty Jo was very active in Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC. She loved her church family and community at large.
The most important thing in Betty Jo’s life was her family and the legacy she left behind. She is survived by her two sons, Bruce Holbrook (wife Susan) and Michael Holbrook; one daughter Wanda Baldwin (husband Steve); five grandchildren, Donovan McCorkle (wife Tracy), Cara Six (husband Chad), Kayce Goodman (husband Daniel), Justin Holbrook, and Jessie Holbrook; five great-grandchildren, Kendall Record (husband Tanner), Callie Six, Camryn Six, Brody Goodman, Beckham Goodman; and one great-great-granddaughter, Claire Record. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Holbrook; parents, Bundy Oscar Sherin and Collie Blanche Ritch Sherin; Daughter-in-law Vicki Holbrook (husband Michael); and six sisters and their husbands and children.
