Betty Ray Hirst

Betty Debus Hirst, of Charlotte, died on Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House. She was 89. Betty was born on August 3rd, 1928 in her home in Paw Creek, NC. She attended Berryhill School in Charlotte.

She married Bill Hirst on August 4th, 1946 and together they had 2 daughters, Pam and Beth. Bill died in 1992 and Betty spent many years after with her special friend, Donald Lamb. Betty worked as a substitute teacher at West Mecklenburg High School and dedicated herself to making a positive impact in her community through her interactions with students. She served for many years as the Registrar for the Board of Elections in her precinct.

Betty enjoyed many activities, among them tennis, golf, bowling and dancing. She was a devout member of Mulberry Presbyterian Church and enjoyed a monthly meeting with her Berryhill classmates as well as bridge and circle clubs. She will be greatly missed.

Betty is survived by her daughters; her 3 grandsons Jonathan, Tate and Will; and her great grandchildren Shepherd, Amelia and Henry.

A funeral will be held at Mulberry Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 13th. Visitation will be held from 10am - 11am with the funeral to follow and burial afterwards in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Mulberry Presbyterian Church or to a one time scholarship that will be set up in her memory to a deserving student at West Mecklenburg High School.
