Betty Ann Brittain Cannon passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. Born in Hickory, NC on July 28, 1934, Mrs. Cannon is the daughter of the late Charlie and Vergie Brittain. One of six children, Mrs. Cannon is preceded in death by two brothers, Lentferd Brittain and Clifford Brittain, and two sisters, Cathern Parsons and Lorraine Smith.
Two of her favorite songs were “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” and “Trust and Obey.” These songs describe how she chose to live her life. As a faithful and active member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, Mrs. Cannon served as a teacher of the Joy Sunday School Class for decades. Missions had a special place in her heart and she served as a leader in the Woman’s Missionary Union and Girls in Action. For many years, she led a monthly Bible study at the Charlotte Healthcare Center. Mrs. Cannon especially enjoyed supporting the Lottie Moon Foreign Missions Offering, the Annie Armstrong Home Missions Offering, and Operation Christmas Child.
Mrs. Cannon was a long-time employee of Lundy Electronics and retired in 1994. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with dear friends, visiting her family, planting flowers, and maintaining a small garden. She loved to read and work jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Cannon was happiest when surrounded by her beloved family and she could often be found playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered and loved for her cheerful disposition, positive attitude, and her unfailing optimism.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by her husband of 70 years, Donald Cannon, her three daughters, Donna Wallace, Patty Hartsell (husband Jimmie), Brenda Dennis (husband Danny), five grandchildren, Jon Brumbaugh (wife Samantha), Christopher Price (wife Courtney), Allison Dennis Justice (husband Brent), Stephanie Price Lane (husband Mike), Patrick Dennis (wife Faith), seven great-grandchildren, Will, Zoey, Avery, Hank, Madelyn, Nicholas, Charlotte, her sister, Dorothy Todd, and many loved nieces and nephews.
