Betty Bledsoe Brooks, 76, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away on September 21 at her daughter’s home in Chesterfield, VA. She was born on January 19, 1936 in Laurinburg, NC to the late James Albert Bledsoe of Pageland, SC and Pearl Wright Bledsoe Thomas of Laurinburg, NC.
Betty was a graduate of Laurinburg High School and the University of NC at Greensboro Business School. Betty worked for the Esso (Exxon) Regional Office in Charlotte, NC for 25 years as an Executive Secretary. She also worked 5 years for the Frito Lay Regional Sales office in Charlotte, NC before retiring.
Betty was married to the late Earl Douglas Williamson of Laurinburg, NC for 12 years. They relocated to Charlotte and had one daughter. In 1972, she married the late Leon Franklin Brooks, Jr. of Charlotte and became step-mother of two children.
Betty and Frank loved to travel to the beach, square dance and garden. Betty was actively involved in her church where she served in various Sunday School roles, and led many fund raising activities. She was an exceptional seamstress and loved painting, flower arranging, cake decorating, cross-stitching, and decorating her home.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Janet Williamson Ridenhour, and son-in-law, Jeffery Mack Ridenhour of Chesterfield, VA; step-daughter, Julie Brooks Morris and husband, Phil Morris of Powder Springs , GA; step-son, Jeffrey Brooks of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Peggy Bledsoe Dillingham of Fort Mill, SC, Brenda Bledsoe Cook of Fort Mill, SC and Phyllis Bledsoe Callahan and husband, Bishop Richard Callahan of Orlando, FL and Elizabeth and Neb Good of Fort Mill, SC, her surrogate grandchildren. She is predeceased by her brother James Albert Bledsoe, Jr. of Midlothian, TX;
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 29th at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church on Hwy 160 in Fort Mill, SC at 2:00pm preceded by a visitation at 1:00pm in the Church’s Worship Center. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
