At 67 years old, she lost a brief and very difficult fight with lymphoma.
While she was born and raised in Indiana, Pennsylvania, she spent all of her adult life in Charlotte, NC. For many years, she thrived as a professional seamstress, sewing beautiful home decor for Charlotte's most discerning buyers.
In May of 1993, she switched careers and began working for First Union as a temp in the role of secretary. For over 29 years, she stayed with the company through much transition and it became Wachovia, then Wells Fargo. Her talent and people skills were quickly noticed and she moved up to the position of Executive Specialist with ease. In her career, Betsy was well respected and cherished as both an employee and a friend.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Scottie Bennett of Mint Hill; her three children, Amy Moya-Mendez Swaney, George Moya-Mendez and Ashley Morton; her two step-children, Kevin Bennett and Angie Eudy; and many grandchildren, including Kobi, Jase, Phoenix, Cecelia, Hart, Cole, Eli, Lexi, Luci, Lucas, Caroline, Alex and Victoria.
Betsy's life was rich with family, friends, and a loving church community through Living Faith Baptist Church. Her garden is still producing beautiful flowers and vegetables, missing the loving hand that cultivated them.
Her kitchen was always bursting with activity, where fresh baked bread and melted butter reigned supreme, but a jar of homemade jam or fresh baked cookies brought smiles to the faces of her kids and grandkids. She was a talented artist, a master of word games, a committed Christian , and a dedicated wife. Most of all, she was born to be a mother and it gave her great joy. She strived to be the best wife, mother and friend she could be and we are all lucky to have known such a pure and beautiful soul.
