

Mrs. Taylor, 88, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on September 30, 2010 at Sardis Oaks. She was born on March 22, 1922 in New England, a daughter of the late Roy E. and Della M. Dixon, and beloved wife of her late husband of 60 years, Walter E. Taylor.
Her childhood years were divided between Dixon’s Grove in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She was a graduate of Wilfred Academy in Boston. She served as Worthy Advisor in the Order of Rainbow for Girls and also served as several star points in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Past President of a local chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. She was also member of several bowling leagues in the Charlotte area for many years. She later served as President of the Workers Sunday Schools Class at St. John’s Baptist Church where she has been a member since 1956.
She was most proud to have enlisted with the first group of women to go into the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve where she served during WWII. She was a S/Sgt. In charge of inflammables at the air base in Cherry Point, NC. She later attended the University of Indiana.
Mrs. Taylor is a charter member and listed in the Women in Military Service Memorial at Arlington Cemetery in Washington, DC. She served as a bookkeeper for the Charlotte City Club for 14 years and later was the Private Secretary to the Vice President of the Charlotte office of Sawyer- Ferguson-Walker Company, Inc. of New York. This company handled national advertising for newspapers and Mrs. Taylor worked for them for 11 ½ years, until her retirement.
She is survived by three sons, Robert P. Taylor and wife, Jane Kuester Taylor, Roy B. Taylor and wife, Sydney, all of Charlotte, and Todd E. Taylor and wife, Jan, of Raleigh. She was also blessed with three grandchildren, Ashley Taylor Cantrell and husband, John, Andrew Taylor, all of Charlotte, and Jason Taylor of Raleigh; great- grandchildren, Jacob William Cantrell, Sadie Taylor Cantrell and Emma Claire Cantrell, all of Charlotte.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010 at St. Johns Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 Sunday afternoon at Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte.
