Ben was the second of six children. Like so many during that time, he immigrated to the United States for better opportunities to raise a family. He arrived in Charlotte in 1963 and spent the rest of his life here, married to the love of his life, Olga. Ben was known for his kind demeanor, quick wit and easy-going personality. Everyone who met Ben, liked Ben. He was happiest in the company of family and friends, particularly with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and inseparable companions Ricardo Loor and Carlos Lizarazo. Carlos provided the greatest gift ever to the Parra family when he donated a kidney to Ben 23 years ago. An accomplished actor, Ben enjoyed watching/attending NASCAR races, and cooking out while sipping on cold Miller Lites.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Carlos, Carlos’ wife, Joyce, and their daughter, Gina. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Olga; children Marty, Steve (Tammy), Patricia, and Michael (Wendy); grandchildren Christopher (Ronisha), Kristina, Morgan, Michael, Leesy, Nicholas, and Jacob; and four great grandchildren Evan, Noah, Tessa, and Ben. He is also survived by four siblings – Hilda Torres, Daniel, George, and Clarita.
A private service will be held on June 12 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers Ben’s family requests donations be made in his name to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org, or to the Atrium Health Pineville Fund with the link below.
